Restore Your

Sexual Health

At Southern Skin and Wellness we offer treatments for sexual health concerns in both men and women, using prescription medications, medical devices, injections and in-office procedures. Treatment begins with an evaluation, because sexual symptoms have many causes and some of them call for a medical workup rather than a procedure. Plans are individualized, and response varies between patients.

What Are Sexual Health Treatments?

Our sexual health treatments aim to address symptoms affecting sexual function, comfort and confidence. We offer individualized plans for men and women based on symptoms, history and examination. Some of the options we offer are FDA-approved for these indications and some, including PRF injections, are not — Dr. Lindley will tell you which is which, and what the evidence supports, before you decide anything.

What Are the

Treatment Benefits?

Treatment plans are individualized and can be combined. What treatment can reasonably address depends on the underlying cause of the symptom, which is why the evaluation comes first. Concerns we evaluate and treat include:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Low libido
  • Vaginal dryness and discomfort
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Difficulty with orgasm

Results vary between patients and depend on the cause of the symptom, the treatment chosen, and whether an underlying medical condition is contributing.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation uses a dual-wavelength hybrid fractional laser applied to vaginal tissue. The non-ablative wavelength is intended to stimulate collagen and elastin production, and the ablative resurfacing portion to stimulate the mucosal tissue. Patients seek it for changes associated with menopause, aging and childbirth — most often dryness, discomfort during intercourse, and laxity.

Energy-based devices are not FDA-approved for vaginal rejuvenation or for the treatment of vaginal atrophy. Published evidence is limited, and response varies between patients. For women who prefer not to undergo a surgical procedure it is one option among several, and it is not the right first step for every symptom — vaginal atrophy in particular has established treatments worth discussing first.

The Treatment Process

Most patients who proceed have one to three treatments, roughly four to six weeks apart, followed by an optional yearly maintenance treatment. Each treatment takes a few minutes, and most patients tolerate it without anesthesia. You can resume your regular daily routine afterward, and we ask that you avoid intercourse for 48 hours.

Dr. Lindley will discuss the evidence, the alternatives and the risks with you before you decide.

Penile PRF Injection

Also known as the ED injection, the Penile PRF Injection uses platelet-rich fibrin prepared from the patient's own blood, injected into the penis with the aim of improving blood flow and erectile function.

PRF is not FDA-approved for erectile dysfunction. Evidence for it is limited and early. Erectile dysfunction also has causes — cardiovascular, endocrine, neurologic, medication-related — that need identifying rather than injecting, which is why an evaluation comes first.

The Treatment Process

We perform a standard blood draw and place the sample in a centrifuge to isolate the growth factors, then prepare them into an injectable form. After applying an anesthetic to numb the area, the PRF is administered into specific areas of the penis. Patients can resume normal daily activities afterward.

Response varies considerably between patients. Some notice a change within weeks; some notice none. Dr. Lindley will discuss the evidence, the risks and the alternatives with you before you decide.

Vaginal PRF Injection

The Vaginal PRF Injection uses platelet-rich fibrin prepared from the patient's own blood, injected into vaginal tissue with the aim of addressing dryness, discomfort, arousal and urinary symptoms associated with aging, childbirth and menopause.

PRF is not FDA-approved for these indications. Evidence is limited and early. Urinary incontinence in particular has several distinct causes with established treatments, and it is worth identifying which one you have before considering an injection.

Oral Medications

We also offer oral medications that promote sexual health and treat ED, such as Cialis®, Viagra® and Levitra®, in addition to other prescription medications.

Cialis® is a medication that can treat erectile dysfunction. It is a vasodilator taken orally before sexual activity.

Viagra® works similarly to Cialis® and is designed to treat erectile dysfunction. It is an oral medication that increases blood flow to encourage normal erections, taken before sexual activity as directed.

Levitra® is another oral medication that treats erectile dysfunction and promotes normal erections.

These medications must not be taken with nitrates. Combining them with nitroglycerin or any other nitrate medication — often prescribed for chest pain or heart disease — can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tell us about every medication you take, including anything taken only occasionally.

Erectile dysfunction also has underlying causes worth identifying rather than only treating, several of them cardiovascular. If you're interested in any of these medications, Dr. Lindley will review your medical history and your current medications and determine whether one of them is appropriate for you.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Whether you simply want to improve your sexual health and wellness or you have some symptoms that are interfering with your quality of life, we can meet with you to discuss your treatment goals and design your individualized treatment plan accordingly.

We have several options to promote sexual health without compromising your overall health. Once we learn more about your medical history and symptoms, we'll recommend the best treatments to enhance your sexual health and wellness safely.

Promote Your Sexual Wellness

With a Personalized Treatment Plan.

Sexual health concerns are common and frequently go unmentioned. If something has changed, the first step is an evaluation — many of these symptoms have treatable medical causes worth identifying. Dr. Lindley will discuss the options, including which are FDA-approved for your concern and which are not, along with the risks and what results are realistic.
